Conflict of interest (COI) is when a person or organisation has an interest or relationships with someone or an organisation that could clash and influence their decisions in a biased or unfair way. For example, the aim of the project is different to someone’s views. Declaring conflict of interest and where the funding came from is important to make sure their is honesty and trust. For example: If the project funded by an organisation with a commercial or financial interest in a certain outcome. Like a pharmaceutical company funding an independent study of the benefits of their pharmaceutical.
