Clinical trials allow researchers to test new treatments or interventions that may prevent, identify, diagnose, treat or manage conditions. Clinical trials look at the results of the new intervention, side effects and any possible changes. The new intervention or treatment and the existing are compared.  

 

Clinical trials can study a range of areas including: 

  • Prevention  
  • Intervention and educational initiatives 
  • Health system  
  • Detection 
  • Diagnosis and treatment methods (e.g. screening test)  
  • Pharmaceutical interventions (e.g. drugs, cells, vaccines)  
  • Therapeutic strategies (e.g. behavioural strategies)  
  • Medical and surgical procedures and devices
