Why do researchers want to involve consumers in research?

Hear from Dr Erandi Hewawasam

  • To learn about what patient priorities are.
  • To gain insights into patients’ lived experiences.
  • What worked?
  • What didn’t work?
  • Where could we improve the care?

Hear from Dr Karine Manera

  • To ensure that time and resources spent on research will make a meaningful and important contribution.
  • To produce research outputs that have direct relevance to the consumers affected.
  • To empower patients and build their skills as researchers.
  • To provide a perspective outside of that of a researcher. This often helps to improve documents and resources. For example, when language is too full of jargon, or documents are too wordy and need to be more appealing.
